The Chief commissioner of railway safety Delhi to inspect the new MRTS line between Velacherry and St. Mount. The inspection between the stations will be done on 5th March 2026 between 2pm and 5.30 pm.

The new MRTS line is expected to be operational from 10th March if the inspection is positive and there would be a formal inauguration on 7th March.
The new stretch between Velacherry and St. Thomas Mount is much awaited as it helps people to connect from ECR, Velacherry, Thiruvanmiyur with Metro, we are expecting the new stretch will reduce the congestion on road and increase the patronage on Chennai Metro.
The inspection will be conducted from 19.796 Kilometer in Velacherry to 24.245 kilometer in St. Thomas Mount. The coach used for the testing AC Rake EMU with 9 cars.
